WHEN PRO-FOOTBALLERS GO

plant-based

A lot of people think you need to eat a meat and dairy diet in order to maintain high performance as an athlete. So, can professional footballers still run and shoot and score hat-tricks on a plant-based diet alone? We teamed up with Professor Dr. Martin Smollich from the Institute of Nutritional Medicine in Lübeck and German football club, SV Babelsberg 03, for an 8-week pilot study to find out. Watch the documentary above to see what happened...

SV Babelsberg 03

For those of you familiar with German football you’ll know that SV Babelsberg 03 is a German football club based in Potsdam-Babelsberg just outside of Berlin. You will also know they were founded in 1903. And you will know they are currently playing in the Regionalliga Nordost which is in the fourth tier of the German football league system. And if you didn’t know any of that, now you do.

SO DOC, WHAT HAPPENED ALREADY?

Keep in mind, this pilot study is the first of its kind to assess the effect of a plant-based diet on the performance of professional football players. Larger and longer randomised studies, ideally also on women, are warranted to confirm these results.
