More about this product

  • Why quotation marks around the “No” in Oatly “No” sugars?

When carbohydrates enter your body, they are broken down into sugars. Easy now, this is totally normal and happens to all food containing carbohydrates, like porridge, fruit, beans, lentils, rice, and oat drink. It’s how your body gets energy so your brain can function properly. But it also means that you get sugars as soon as this drink touches your tongue. The quotation marks are there to be transparent about this natural process. Read more here.

  • What are carbohydrates?

Carbohydrates, or carbs, are essential to provide energy for all cells in your body and can come in the form of starch, sugar, or fiber. Read more about carbs and things like sugars, GI and GL here.

  • Does this mean that your regular Oat drink has added sugar?

No. For a regular oat drink like Oatly’s, some of the starch is turned into sugars during production, but with a no-sugar or sugar-free oat drink your body takes care of that process. Either way you end up with only slightly less carbs from the “No” sugars. Lucky you! About half of your daily energy should come from carbs.

  • How is this different from your ambient “No” sugars oat drink?

The short version, it’s the packaging. The chilled version needs to be always stored in the fridge but the ambient can be kept in room temperature before opening. For a longer version of this answer go here.

What might be less amazing

For our “No” sugars products we don’t use the same production process involving the breaking down of the oat’s carbohydrates into sugars, that we use for our other oat drinks. Instead, when you gulp some of this freshly made oat drink, your body turns the carbohydrates into sugars. Yeah, that’s just the basic biology of the human digestive system and is an important part of getting energy for your body and brain.

To make it work in coffee, we’ve added an acidity regulator, but we would never put anything in our products that isn’t totally necessary or totally approved for consumption.

Where are the ingredients?

Since our ingredients often differs slightly between markets they are not available on the global site.

How do we make our oat drinks?

Our oat base is just oats and water. But it’s what we do with those oats and that water that makes Oatly so special.
